“GYORIN KOZANE” – LEXUS UX 2019 ART CAR
“GYORIN KOZANE” (Scales Armour) was awarded with the First Prize of LEXUS ART CAR European Contest helded in Richard Mille ARTS & ELEGANCE 2019 (Chantilly Castle, Paris).
Through an in depth study of the LEXUS Philosophy and the Japanese Culture, we developed an artistic intervention with DUALIY concept as our main engine. This element (DUALITY) is somehow present in every one of our designs and works.
INNOVATION – CRAFTSMANSHIP
MODERNITY – TRADITION
GEOMETRY – ORGANIC
TECNOLOGY – NATURE
OUTSIDE – INSIDE
BOUNDARIES – NEW HORIZONTS
Using BIO EPOXI, state-of -the -art component committed to environment preservation, we created a three dimensional body structure, overlapping the entire vehicule surface. Through a fully hand made process we created an organic mesh of scales, mimicking a fish skin. These animals are widely presents in Japanese artistic imagery.
We extracted both blue (Ao) and red (Aka) colors from Japanese pictorial tradition, in order to create a shiny base for the scales. Through a visual abstration process (colors, textures, iterations) we developed a figurative and naturalist language.
The overlapping of the +4000 scales creates an appearance of animal skin ~ biomechanic armour that protects the entire vehicle.
DUALITY and contrast of geometric/organic, Nature/Technology, Crafstmanship/Innovation, Tradition/Modernity, so recurring in this artistic work, merge in ENGAWA a deeply rooted concept in LEXUS Philosophy: an invisible area of transtion between inside and outside, the connection between Human Being and Cosmos, what is stablished and unpredictable, a place of meeting and communication for materials, places and people.
